Experimental Type Design - Academic Project
This book contains 80 type explorations, with one new design created each day based on the same theme. I chose the poem Not Waving but Drowning by Stevie Smith. Drawing on its meaning and emotional tone, I employed various visual effects to convey water and evoke a sense of melancholy.
At first, I focused on keeping the type aligned to a grid and maintaining high readability, which limited my creative direction. To move beyond this, I began experimenting with depth, spatial composition, and breaking away from the grid. This shift allowed me to explore more expressive and abstract approaches.
Eventually, I introduced 3D elements and combined them with 2D typography, thereby expanding the project's boundaries. Through this process, I discovered new possibilities in typographic expression.
